For the past 6 years, Aspen Crossing has hosted the Southern Alberta Music Festival. With over 20 local performers, coming together to share their talents. Most of whom have grown professionally, yet always making the time to come back each year, to support this STARS® Air Ambulance benefit.

Jake Mathews - Having enjoyed great success at radio with numerous top 20 hits such as “If I Had It My Way”, “Beer Necessities”, “Kings For A Day”, “Time After Time”, “I’m Gone” as well as others and has received several Canadian Country Music Award nominations.
With a self titled debut in 2002, followed up with his outstanding 2004 sophomore album Time After Time which garnered national critical acclaim and was awarded Album of the Year by Country Music News. In July of 2011 Jake released his album “Red Tail Lights” through On Ramp Records/EMI. The first single “If I Had It My Way” was one of the TOP 5 most played songs of the year and spent an incredible 36 weeks on the charts and reached #9 on BDS.
Troy Kokol – Is a SOCAN award winner, 2-time CCMA songwriter of the year nominee and has just completed his 2nd studio album, "Lonely Ghost. Troy has written over 200 cuts with some very talented folks, including Warner Music's Brett Kissel, Tenille Townes, Leaving Thomas, Chris Henderson, Ryan Laird and Shane Yellowbird....whose single, "Pick Up Truck" (written w/ Joni Delaurier) was recently listed #6 all time on Canadian country radio by Billboard!
As a performer, songwriter and a recording producer, Troy has worked with some amazing artists at his studio in Calgary including Brad Saunders, Nancy Laberge and invictus/universal music artist Beamer Wigley.
Joni Delaurier - When people call her a singer/songwriter, Joni Delaurier is quick to correct them. "I'm definitely more of a songwriter/singer. It's an important distinction for me," says Delaurier. "I may never grace the stage of a stadium but creating words and music... yeah, that's definitely my thing."
Delaurier’s first cut, "Pickup Truck", co-written with husband Troy Kokol, was featured on country artist Shane Yellowbird's freshman release, "Life Is Calling My Name". At the 2007 Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA) Awards, the song was nominated for Single of the Year, Video of the Year and Kokol and Delaurier were nominated for SOCAN Songwriter of the Year. The song ended up being one of the top 10 Canadian country singles in 2007 and won the duo a SOCAN award for Country Music in 2008, securing their presence in the industry as songwriters.
Renegade Station – Formerly known as Domino, their new name is symbolic of the group’s unconventional approach to their music and sense of independence.
With the release of their newest album, Along for the Ride, Alberta’s Renegade Station embarks on a dynamic musical journey that sees the talented quartet elevating their already impressive reputation for creative excellence and superior showmanship to new heights.
In recent years they have won back to back Association of Country Music in Alberta, as Group of the Year (2015 and 2016) as well as the ACMA Fan’s Choice of the Year in 2015. They also garnered a CCMA nomination for songwriter of the year for their tune 2:15 and Luanne was also nominated for CCMA Bass Player of the Year for 2016.
The band has shared the stage with a who’s who of Canadian and international country music luminaries, from George Canyon and Carolyn Dawn Johnson, to David Lee Murphy, Emerson Drive, and Bobby Wills.”
Drew Gregory – There is an authenticity and truthfulness to the music of Drew Gregory that is undeniable. The songs of this award-winning Alberta country music sensation are infused with a down home realism, a gritty honesty and vibrant sense of rootedness that comes from years spent working the land as a farmer – an aspect of his life that is deeply connected to his talent as a musician, singer and songwriter.
Over his burgeoning career he has shared the stage and opened concert and festival dates for the likes of Miranda Lambert, Kip Moore, John Michael Montgomery, Big & Rich, Emerson Drive and Chad Brownlee among others.”
Lauren Mayell – Lauren started 2017 with winning the Country 105 Rising Star in Calgary; followed by opening for many award winning Canadian and American artists; and shared the Country Thunder Music Festival main stage with The Road Hammers, Terri Clark, Randy Houser and Thomas Rhett. Lauren was recently nominated for 2017 ACMA Female Artist of The Year and Album of the year.
Lyndsay Butler - If you were going to sum up Lyndsay Butler in just a couple of words they would be, real & country. With strong country roots and an outlaw, southern rock sound she brings life and passion to every note.
In the past few months she has opened for Top Canadian Country Recording Artists, George Canyon, Aaron Pritchett and Bobby Wills.
Matt Blais - Powerful vocals, electrifying harmonica, and intense performances define Matt Blais.
The rock’n’roll troubadour’s latest single “Give A Little More” (Fall 2017) encapsulates what it means to fight an uphill battle, whether that’s as a Canadian indie-rocker or as an everyday person grinding through life. “It’s an anthem for the hardworking,” says Blais. “My experiences in the music business, especially the hard life on the road, were my inspiration. Larry Vannetta - Larry is a two-time Canadian Juno nominee and is Three-time nominee for best male artist award by the Association of Country Music in Alberta in 2012, 2013 and 2014. Nitelife - Everything from old and new rock to new country. This particular combination of four seasoned musicians, is sure to please audiences of all ages and tastes. Crisp and precise harmonies, great arrangements, and a high level of energy.
Side note: Don Wilson also doubles as a train engineer operating the Aspen Crossing Railway when he is available! He also doubles as Conductor when needed.
High Steppin Daddy - “Real music being played by phenomenally talented, local musicians. “The members of HIGH STEPPIN DADDY all have recorded and toured with some of Canada’s top Artists and have been on stage at the biggest festivals across the country including Big Valley Jamboree, Cavendish Beach Fest, Craven, Boots & Hearts Festival, Dauphin Countryfest, The Grey Cup Festival, and many more. Steel and Timber - “Steel & Timber's music is a blend of roots country, folk rock, bluegrass and blues, and it makes sense; the members of Steel & Timber are music lovers. Having released two albums, “Home Brew (2015) and Everything you Own (2017). They are tirelessly developing their sound and stage act, incorporating ukulele, kick drum, guitar and banjo effects, and wowing audiences with their cheerful fun-loving approach to performing original, yet familiar music.”
Carolyn Harley - Take an exceptional songwriter who can write in a wide variety of styles: add in a beautiful voice that causes people to say, “I could listen to you sing all night!!” and finally add in a sense of humour and engaging stage presence with solid guitar work and you end up with a recipe for an engaging, thoughtful and uplifting evening of original music.
Free Beer Band - the band loves to play quality stuff and the ever-expanding repertoire features over 80 classic songs from the 50's to present day by artists such as Queen, Fleetwood Mac, The Police, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, AC/DC, Bon Jovi, Elton John, The Feeling etc.
Chet Defreese – Chet DeFreese is one of those rare artists that captures a unique style of song writing that defies any one style or category. His music encompasses a broad range of familiar formats that blend together into a truly unique style.
Glen Brown and the Spur Crazy Band - “Following a family tradition, a legacy he inherited from his dad Earl. The roots of Glen's raisin' lie within a good 4/4 shuffle. Inspired by such artists as Ray Price, Tony Booth, Johnny Bush, Glen is often referred to as " Mr. Shuffle ".
Glen has a real talent to put together a strong team of accomplished musicians. The bands Glen puts together are professionals who share the same passion about their music. His band members have played with Ian Tyson, Gord Bamford, and George Fox, to mention a few.
Beyond Crimson - Beyond Crimson consists of 6 teenagers, “heavily driven by hard rock, Beyond Crimson was brought together by the song "Civil War" by Guns N' Roses in 2016.” These young and upcoming artists will be a band to watch as they continue to hone their skills and share a passion of music that just may have us saying. ‘Wow, we knew them when . . . ‘
Double Suede - DoubleSuede is what the intersection of 50's rock and country sounds like. Some like to call it Rockabilly but there is a whole lot more waiting under the hood of this hotrod.
The duo features: Casey Shalala on upright bass and heartbreaks & Matt Beatty on "Bigsby" equipped guitar and vocals.
Blast Train - ...Rocky tonkin Rockabilly music! This band does not ease into the music, they explode from the first song to the last. Be prepared for foot stompin’ infection and a mean case of the Jumpin’ jimmy legs.
Incorporating traditional country music, songs we know and love that take us back combined with exceptional original music, BlastTrain is an exciting band musically and equally exciting visually. The three have razor sharp skills on their individual craft and many numerous credits to each member grows as they blaze their trail of seemingly effortless fire and lay a track of explosive entertainment!
Ronnie Kerr - After years of touring the world with some of Canada’s largest Country Music Artists, Ronnie has decided to record and release his own solo album set to launch in spring of 2019. Ronnie’s traditional voice has been compared to the likes of Travis Tritt and John Conlee to name a few.
