Rural Alberta - Not Just a Southern Backroad
The 2018 trends for travel appear to be pointing to your own backyard. Here in Alberta, we feel we have the best backyard to play in. Whether it’s hiking, skiing, boating sight-seeing, or just getting away for a change in scenery, you’ll soon discover that in Alberta there are plenty of sights to see, things to do, explore and share.
Shaking Off the Winter Blahs
The mad rush of December with its holiday gluttony is over. You’ve pretty much settled back in to a routine where you’re silently or vocally, affirming you’re done with cozy, intimate, cold winter. It’s time to shake off those mid-January blahs. If you’re feeling like you’ve got cabin fever, then it’s time to turn your attention to the great outdoors by getting out of the house and heading down to the 49th Annual RV Expo Calgary.
As many of you begin looking to the promise of Spring blissfully turning into Summer, it’s time to look to outdoor fun where Mother Nature looks like a rainbow of colours. Breaking out of the 4 wall syndrome and embracing the outdoors with family and friends is the best way to rejuvenate your spirits and strengthen relationships.
Alberta’s Living Landscapes
Alberta’s breathtaking landscapes don’t necessarily begin or end with the Foothills and Mountains. While there are a ton of places to explore and appreciate in that direction, there’s also plenty more scenes and experiences to take in, just a scant hour SE of the city of Calgary. With divergent landscapes quite different of the stunning city skyline, you’ll truly think you’re in a whole new country, and you’ll be right. You’ll be in farming country. Alberta is known as Canada’s second-largest agricultural province.
A New Camping Experience
At Aspen Crossing you’ll love the complete change of scenery within the beautiful lush country setting. Campsites that are thoughtfully designed, well treed for privacy each with fire pits. If you’re not into cooking, enjoy dining in the Diefenbaker Dining Car. This historical rail car was once the private rail car for John Diefenbaker, a nightclub section of the famous Side Track Café. It proudly resides at Aspen Crossing showcasing daily specials using locally sourced foods in the fully licensed restaurant.
The Bergquist House is a relatively new addition that’s steeped in century old Alberta history. Having once been a part of a 2,000-acre family farm in Carseland, Alberta; most of it’s original structure and interior design has been preserved. The Bergquist House invites you to challenge your problem-solving skills by offering 2 different themed Escape Rooms. After you’ve mastered the art of getting out of a locked room, you can enjoy the Tavern section on the main floor, complete with outdoor patio for planning your next escape, whether it be a locked room or your next camping escape. Add in some great pub style food and your favorite beverage to complete your downtime enjoyment.
The Aspen Crossing Railway offers opportunity to experience a variety of themed train excursions. Enjoy exploring each heritage rail car as you travel through the surrounding agricultural country side. Wild life is most often seen in their natural habitat. Most excursions include musical entertainment that may be interrupted by some notorious train robbers. It’s all part of the fun!
