Summer Wrap Up
As most of you know we typically do a recap of our train season as well as other happenings here at Aspen Crossing. But, this year has been an exceptionally busy year and we owe it to all of you!
Images of Summer
This summer we expanded our campground from 85 sites to 120. We had hoped that would help with demand however, we were booked consistently throughout the summer. Take heart you Happy Campers, we’ll be adding more sites hopefully next season. For those of you that were unsure about the new section; you’ll be happy to note that additional washrooms and showers will be available. In the 2018 Season.
Thanks to our new online booking system, you can now book camping dates for next summer now. Just visit our website then click on our Campground tab.
There were quite a few family reunions, and special events taking place this year. We were delighted to be a part of a 3rd Annual Rib Off. Our camp hosts truly enjoyed a special perk of their job when, they were invited to be part of the judging process. A great time was had by all!
There was also a major family reunion held aboard the Aspen Crossing Railway this past August. The Vanden Brink Family Reunion celebrated 50 years with over 200 members enjoying our Meals in the Field train excursion. Complete with musical entertainment and the Guns of the Golden West performing shoot outs and robberies.
Wherever possible, the train staff loved shining the spotlight on passengers celebrating special milestones! So if you have one you want us to help put an extra surprise, just let us know when doing your booking.
Aspen Crossing is always ready to help, whether big or small. This past summer the Vulcan Health Centre Expansion project held a private function, dubbed the Barley Run as a means of helping to raise funds for this much needed facility.
And of course the 5th Annual Southern Alberta Music Festival hit an extra high note this summer, by raising over $13,000 for STARS Air Ambulance.
What’s New at Aspen Crossing
Well, we’re delighted you asked! Aspen Crossing is very proud to share with those of you that missed our Facebook pages; the Bergquist House Tavern and Escape Rooms are now open.
This century old prairie farmhouse is steeped in local Alberta history. Having once been the homestead for the Bergquist family. It has been restored and given new life as a Tavern on the main level with Escape Rooms in the upper level. Most of the architectural structure has been preserved, including the 100-year-old staircase where members of the Bergquist family slid down as children full of laughter.
We were fortunate to have one of the original Bergquist granddaughters at the ribbon cutting ceremony, Doreen Cowan. Doreen says she spent the first 5 years of her life growing up in the old homestead. So, for Doreen, coming back to visit, after all these years brings back such loving and treasured memories. We also had the distinct pleasure of having Martin Shields – MP, Bow River to participate with the ceremonies.

Early ABStorm brings Holiday Greetings
After enjoying a warmer than usual entire summer season; thinking we had plenty of time to put away lawn furniture, rake up leaves and most of all winterize campers. October 2nd, 2017 was supposed to be a celebration of the coming of Fall, but Mother Nature had other ideas in store for us.
It did seem to spur some of you into thinking about the upcoming holiday season. And a very good thing too! THE POLAR EXPRESS™ Train Ride is almost 60% sold out. Once again, the magical journey to the North Pole begins with the Inaugural run being donated to the Kids Cancer Care Foundation. It is a very special time for all the Staff here at Aspen Crossing to give back. It’s a very poignant reminder that every day is truly a gift. A reminder to hold our loved ones and never take them for granted.
This extraordinary holiday classic is sure to become one of your family’s favourite traditions. Don’t miss out this year! To book your seats, visit our website at AspenCrossing.com/plarexpress or call us (403) 534-2129, and we’ll be happy to assist you.
