Welcome Home Engine 8454!
On April 29, 2015, we welcomed home our locomotive for our railway tours.
Things are getting a whole lot closer for the inaugural train tour of the Aspen Crossing Railway this May 15th. We are excited to announce the arrival of the Locomotive for the project. We were hoping the locomotive would get delivered by rail, but unfortunately CP is storing over 400 grain cars on the first 8 miles of the Lomond Spur and is unable to provide service at this time.
To overcome this we moved the locomotive by truck for the last 75 miles, all the way from Lethbridge, Alberta. A sight rarely seen!
The nearly 200,000 pound unit is a 1951 Alco S3, built by Montreal Locomotive Works, that was last owned by Parrish & Heimbecker at Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan.
This will be the workhorse for the upcoming 5 car tourist train, surely to be one of the best tourist attractions in Alberta for years to come!
We are located near Mossleigh Alberta, which is less than 1 hour drive Southeast of Calgary. In addition to the railway excursions, we have a railway themed restaurant, gift shop and a garden centre. For accommodations we offer a fully serviced campground, as well as 3 restored train cabooses cabins for overnight stays.
